At this point, you are going to smooth a firming cream or serum on your hands, wrists and fingers. I personally use 2 different products on my face (and hands when I do this treatment), the first is a rejuvenating serum, which is purported to cause your cells to become active and reproduce quicker, and [...]

Apply any (or all – one treatment at a time, please – if you are feeling like your skin needs some serious work!) of the facial treament products listed- just like you would do on your face. A thin coat of mask, peel, or dermabrasion cream is all you need, and you need only [...]

Just like on your face, toner is used to minimize (tighten) your pores, bring your skin’s pH back to normal and prepare it for moisturizing treatments. Either pour a little into your palm and spread it lightly all over your hands and forearms OR you can keep some in a small spray bottle and lightly [...]

As if your hands aren’t feeling clean enough already, you are now going to scrub them, and your forearms, vigorously with whatever exfoliant product you use on your face and/or body. Take your time, and spend extra time on your problem areas (callouses, elbows, tops of hands).

We are going to start talking about the Facial for the Hands, which incorporates all of the special spa treatments that you are likely to find at the salons. Our main focus in the manicure was your nails, and making them look great and be ready to hold polish for 2 weeks. [...]

Paraffin

In: Save Money!, Spa Treatments, Supplies

For the paraffin treatment, purchase a block of paraffin at the grocery store for next to nothing. If you have never seen it, go to the section with the canning supplies. I will tell you how to put this all together a bit later, but use the oil from your basic spa manicure, and if [...]

Plastic Wrap

In: Spa Treatments, Supplies

The new Press N Seal wrap is GREAT for this, and a whole lot less messy to work with by yourself, but any will do. You can also use gallon size plastic food storage bags. These will be used to protect your heated mitts and towels from paraffin and lotions and oils, and to [...]

Facial supplies

In: Spa Treatments, Supplies

The facial supplies are almost identical to the treatments you will receive at the spa. Use what you have lying around in your “unused beauty drawer (make sure it hasn’t gone rancid though!)”, or make this a good excuse to try something more luxurious than what you have been using. Your skin will thank you! [...]

Salt and Oils

In: Manicures, Save Money!, Spa Treatments, Supplies

The salt and oil are used for a scrub similar to what you receive with a spa manicure at WAY less than you pay for at the spa. More about this when we get into the spa treatments!

o Oil-Almond, Olive, Jojoba, Vitamin E or your choice
o SMALL bottle of essential oil (your choice of scent)
o Plastic wrap
o Several hand towels

About Nail Tech Secrets

The Nail Tech Secrets that you see today was my first foray into writing about beauty online. The site originated in January 2005 as a good old handwritten html site, taken from the manuscripts of a book I was writing while staying at home taking care of my seriously ill husband. A few months later I put it on blog software, then in December 2005, my romance with WordPress began, and the result is the site you see now. I ebb and flow in my tending of NTS, but if you want to learn to do manicures and pedicures yourself, explore the categories and you will find lots of in depth information. And I hope you will subscribe to my email updates and get the latest and greatest nail news, tips and how to's from Nail Tech Secrets!
