DuWop Toe Polish

duwop toe polish

DuWop Toe Polish is the most unique concept I have seen since Pawlish (but thats another article) - it is designed for toes, and has special features like a quick drying formula, and benefits like extreme shine, and anti fungal ingredients.

My opinion? It is GREAT on toes. I have the color Flip Flops (the current - and first, I might add- collection are all named after shoes), and it dries amazingly fast - which is great for polishing toes before bed - which I always do. The color also stays nice and shiny for a long time. The down side is that it really needs to stay on the toes. Although you may think your feet take a lot of abuse, your toenails stay much more protected than your fingernails do, and therefore do not need “tough” nail polish so much. This will chip on your fingernails quicker than you would like - but, thats why they call it Toe Polish, right?

DuWop’s Toe Polish is $12 a bottle, and can be purchased from various stores, and from QVC.

Do You Bite Your Nails?

Stop biting your nails

Does this sound like you?

Even now, rarely a week goes by without my pinky bandaged. I seem to pick on the pinky the most.

My dad tried to get me to stop by shock therapy. Every time he saw my fingers in my mouth, he’d slap them out. I was shocked all right, but I didn’t stop and developed an eye twitch as well.

I know it’s an ugly habit. I’m always trying to quit.

The morning of my wedding, I got acrylic nails. By the reception, one nail was bitten off; the others didn’t make it through the honeymoon.

Someone told me regular manicures would help, but first my nails would have to grow past the quick. I would try and try, but there’d always be a hangnail, a rough edge or overgrown cuticle. My fingernails and teeth seemed to have a magnetic attraction.

I was 36 when I had my first manicure, and have had very few since then.

I hate to admit this, but I have been a nail biter for my whole life. I obviously have a hand to mouth horrendous habit that finds me biting my nails and cuticles, smoking (which I recently quit) and eating too much.

Orly No Bite .6 oz.I have tried products like Orly No Bite, but nothing ever tasted bad enough for long enough. Honestly, regular manicures are the way to go for me, and they might be for you as well. If my nails are kempt, polished and my cuticles are moisturized, I won’t mess with them. As soon as they start going downhill or my cuticles start getting dry, here I come. I don’t care if your nails look as bad as the nails in this photo, get them done, or do them yourself, it will make a world of difference.

In a Nail Polishing Rut?

This article is one woman’s view of nail polish and what is appropriate. I can sort of identify with her, as she is pretty staunchly convinced that the only alternatives that are ok are red on the toes and nude on the fingers. I really have a huge tendency to be this way myself, with everything from nail polish to fragrance, but I have been really trying to unbrainwash myself lately and come to that real realization that it is ok to be fickle with all of these things - there are zillions of companies working hard to attract our business and how in the world are they supposed to do that if we stay in a huge rut forever? I don’t know, but I am quite fickle now, and am having a great time with it!

As for me, I’ve decided it’s still all about nude or red. I did try a few brights - on both toes and fingers. I even tried a pretty-but-bold candy pink called Deauville (Chanel again). And though I might, in time, be able to adjust my taste to all the zaniness, my problem is in the application: I just don’t find the bold colours easy to paint on. In fact, they end up looking blotchy, streaky and even a bit messy. Maybe it’s something in my technique, but this is one trend that doesn’t colour me happy.

I do think she needs to come read about Polish That Lasts and get some tips on how to polish without streaking. :) It can be done, I promise!!

Basic Nail Anatomy

Before we get into the gory details of the spa manicure, I want to start by showing you a “map” of a fingernail, identifying its parts the way I will refer to them in this blog. I am not going to bother you with “proper” terminology, because those words are useless in real life. If you start talking about eponychia, parionychia and hyponychia, your friends will run, and no one but a doctor and a few educated nail techs will know what you are talking about.

Polish color

Brand and color are your preference. I have found that if you use a quality base coat and a quality top coat, then you can use whatever brand of colored polish that you choose. My preference is Jessica or OPI, but truly, just about any of them will do. Make sure that the polish doesn’t need any more than two thin coats to look its
best. I have used the cheapest drugstore nail polishes on clients in the past with great results, but sometimes polish intended for little girls is watered down so much that to get good color coverage you need three or four coats. You want to avoid this polish completely.

Base and Top Coat

Jessica Nail Systems

You will need a quality base coat specific to your nail type, the color of your choice, and a top coat. Jessica Nail Systems have released their line to the public now, and in my opinion their treatment base coats are the very best. Jessica can be purchased through the link above, or at many local drugstores. Nailtiques (a professional product, supposedly available in salons only, but I find it in the drugstores almost all of the time now) is a great product too (albeit expensive!). NailTek is less expensive, but just as good as Nailtiques, in my opinion. The most important thing is to get a base coat specific to your nail type. If your nails are prone to peeling get a treatment for dry nails, if they are thicker than a normal nail and not very flexible, choose a treatment for brittle nails. Of course, if you have those often sought after “perfect 10,” then choose a base coat for normal nails. I always recommend you purchase another base coat for normal nails to use every other time you polish, as treatment base coats tend to overcorrect
if used all of the time. I also recommend Seche Vite topcoat for all nail types, if you are not willing to pay for that professional only product (again, you can find it at the drugstore most of the time), you can get Out The Door, which is pretty close, at your local beauty supply and a lot of drugstores.
