Learn all about nails with Christina Jones

I am heading out for Fedora - my hubby has dug his heels in against the currently “oh so popular” black polish, but I am going to keep trying with this one, a nice dark chocolate cool brown.
The Nail Tech Secrets that you see today was my first foray into writing about beauty online. The site originated in January 2005 as a good old handwritten html site, taken from the manuscripts of a book I was writing while staying at home taking care of my seriously ill husband. A few months later I put it on blog software, then in December 2005, my romance with WordPress began, and the result is the site you see now. I ebb and flow in my tending of NTS, but if you want to learn to do manicures and pedicures yourself, explore the categories and you will find lots of in depth information. And I hope you will subscribe to my email updates and get the latest and greatest nail news, tips and how to's from Nail Tech Secrets!

HI Christina! I have a question about this trend. I have very dark skin and I would love to try this look, but dark nails on dark skin is not pretty. Do you have any suggestions for an alternate color or should I bypass this trend altogether?

Hi Stacey,
I’m a dark brown girl too, so I know what you mean. When I tried on “Black Satin,” I cringed. But I consulted with Julia, from http://www.allaboutthepretty.typepad.com, and we both agreed that if we are going to pull this one off…it has to be done to a T! Your nails have to be perfectly manicured…your hair needs to be sharp…outfit sharp (this color looks great with all black and/or winter white). But nonetheless, if you want to try something out…try MAC’s Showy. Its a very deep chocolate and is absolutely gorgeous.

Hey, I just watched a wonderful interview w. the creator of Essie on TV recently. So inspiring. This woman rocks!
She keeps her ideas, written hastily on a notepad, in a special drawer in her desk. She writes her ideas down any time, night or day!
I have ugly hands (very work like and chunky) and stubby fingers. and my nails, ugh… oh well. I’ve never mastered the ‘nail’ thing.
but I definitely admire other people’s beautiful hands and nails. including men!

Alanna and Stacey - you all might dry some of the vampy reds that are out too - there are so many different colors/shades that might work for you. One potential problem I can think of is if your skin is very dark, very dark nails just won’t carry the same effect. You might buck the system by wearing shockingly light colors.
Mary, I just referenced the article on Essie in my newest post. Good to see you over here!!

Thanks Christina and Alanna! I am going to purchase MAC Showy this weekend. My signature color is a pearly white by Creative Nail Design - I can’t think of the name. I haven’t worn it in a while so I will pull it out for Fall. Thanks for your help!
