Remove one foot from the bath. Put your foot either on the edge of the chair or on the side of the bath. With your cuticle pusher, scrape all of the cuticle skin attached to your toenails from the edge of your nail down towards the cuticle, being very careful not to gouge your cuticle and cause bleeding. Take the metal pusher and carefully run it up the sides of your toenail, getting as deep into that groove as you can (and even UNDER the sides of the toenail), sliding all of the gunk that accumulates up to the top and out of there . This is a huge step in avoiding ingrown toenails. If your toe is sore on the sides, it is very likely you have an accumulation of dead skin and dirt in there that is invading your body and causing an infection. This process may be a little uncomfortable at first, but you will get the hang of it with practice, and as your toes get used to it, it will become easier.
The Nail Tech Secrets that you see today was my first foray into writing about beauty online. The site originated in January 2005 as a good old handwritten html site, taken from the manuscripts of a book I was writing while staying at home taking care of my seriously ill husband. A few months later I put it on blog software, then in December 2005, my romance with WordPress began, and the result is the site you see now. I ebb and flow in my tending of NTS, but if you want to learn to do manicures and pedicures yourself, explore the categories and you will find lots of in depth information. And I hope you will subscribe to my email updates and get the latest and greatest nail news, tips and how to's from Nail Tech Secrets!

[...] I am still working on the Spa Pedicure section at Nail Tech Secrets this week, but am moving a bit slow, because my husband has been on vacation all week (and he is very time consuming, know what I mean?). Be sure to learn how to do these properly yourself, to avoid the ultra scary bacteria that are out there. I saw a woman getting a pedicure in the mall yesterday, and I wanted to go in there and tell her about the infection possibility, but I thought I had best keep my crazy side under wraps. Ha. But please be careful - there are lots of alternatives to dangerous beauty methods, sometimes you just have to get a little creative. But we can do that, right??? [...]
